The crystal clear insights of Bill Kristol
by Jim Hightower

The New York Times apparently felt that it needed an insightful right-wing columnist. Instead, it has hired Bill Kristol.

There are plenty of writers on the right who are knowledgeable and have something to say. Kristol is not one of them. First clue: Kristol was chief of staff for the goofy vice president Dan Quayle, where he became known as “Quayle’s Brain.” How ignominious is that?

A hidebound neo-con ideologue, Kristol has since distinguished himself as a clueless cheerleader for George W’s disastrous war in Iraq. To introduce you to this new pundit for the Times, let’s revisit a few of his past insights.

Just after 9-11, Bill opined that attacking Iraq and ousting Saddam “would start a chain reaction in the Arab world that would be very healthy.” The next February, he insisted that as a result of America’s invasion of Iraq, “We will be respected in the Arab world…and I think we will be respected around the world.”

The next month, as Bush was sending our troops to Iraq, Kristol gave us this knee-slapper: “Very few wars in American history were prepared better or more thoroughly than this one by this president.” Bill also showed his expertise on Arab culture by informing us that while some critics had warned that the Shiites and Sunnis would not get along, “There’s almost no evidence of that at all.”

When our troops took Baghdad and deposed Saddam, Bill gloated that this meant the Bushites were “reshaping the Middle East, so the region would no longer be a hot bed for terrorism, extremism, anti-Americanism, and weapons of mass destruction.” Since that went so well, Kristol is now targeting Iran, declaring that invading there is "Not a bad idea!"

Look for more brilliance from Bill in the New York Times, a paper that claims to publish “all the news that’s fit to print.”
